Since Mother’s Day is upon us, I thought it’d be fun to share some FREE Mother’s Day gift ideas the moms in your life might enjoy. I’m a girl who loves gifts, but I also appreciate being acknowledged as well as meaningful gestures. I have learned through many headaches that my partner in crime cannot read my mind. And since I know what I want, I might as well vocalize it CLEARLY. So if you’re a mom who wants to give your loved ones some hints that don’t affect the bank account, or if you have a mom you want to celebrate with a limited, maybe non-existent budget, but aren’t sure what to do – this one is for YOU!

  1. YOU JUST GOTTA LET ME BE, LET ME BE, LET ME BE…

This one is so simple. Just leave mom alone. Wake up early, exit the bedroom and let her sleep until her heart’s content. Once she’s up, shower her with love, then exit stage left and close the door behind you. When you have a family to take care of getting an opportunity to recharge does wonders for the mind, body and soul.

Extra Credit: Breakfast in bed would certainly be a nice touch and a great way to start the day alone. And while we’re on the topic of food, make sure mom doesn’t have to think about snacks, lunch or dinner for the day. Feeding a family can be a full time and mentally exhausting job.

  1. BE HER PHOTOGRAPHER FOR THE DAY

If the mom in your life loves social media, this is the perfect gesture! Capturing a plethora of Instagram worthy photos is priceless. Your hunny will be getting likes for weeks all thanks to your ability to capture her beauty. And I honestly don’t know a girl who doesn’t love a worthwhile reason to get dolled up!

Extra Credit: Buy her a new outfit or two for the photo shoot. It might also be worth the effort to find someone to do her makeup and/or hair.

  1. HOMEMADE GIFTS

This one is pretty standard from the cute footprint tiles, homemade cards and a coupon book from you and the kids. You can find a surplus of ideas (and instructions) on Pinterest. Or just gather up whatever random supplies you can find around the house and let your kiddos imaginations take over. Nothing warms the heart like a gift made from your loved ones own hands.

  1. DO HER CHORES

I would recommend a weeklong commitment, but even one day is better than nothing. If the bedding, towels or kids clothes were washed and folded, my present life would be made. There are few things more satisfying than crossing off items on your to-do list, especially when you weren’t the one who did it! This will earn you SO many brownie points.

  1. BE THE BAD COP ALL WEEKEND

There might be nothing more calming than not having to raise your voice or give a stern look for a few days. Wrinkle free weekend, anyone? Be the bad cop. Discipline/keep the kids in check (and yourself if applicable.) Trust me, you’ll be thanking yourself by the end of the following week if you pull this one off.

  1. LEAVE THE HOUSE AND TAKE THE KIDS

This is an extension of number one. Not only are you leaving her be in her own corner of the house, but you are giving her a QUIET and EMPTY house. This is the holy grail for most moms: the ability to enjoy her castle…especially if it’s clean. (Hint. Hint. See number four.)

Extra Credit: Invite her gal pals over, order food and stock up the wine.

Extra Extra Credit: Take the kid’s to your mother’s house. This one is a win-win and earns you kudos from both of the ladies in your life. If your mom has an empty nest, she’ll love having her baby and grandbabies fill her house with energy, laughter and love.

There really is no excuse for not making the mom in your life feel special. Whether you have nothing or a few dollars to explore some of the extra credit options, I’m sure the mom in your life just wants to be acknowledged and appreciated. Besides, doing one or more of these things might result in you getting a little gift yourself!
